toowoomba bas preparation
Meeting BAS (Business Activity Statement) deadlines can become overwhelming when juggling payroll, invoicing and day-to-day operations. At Darling Downs Bookkeeping Company, we take care of BAS preparation and lodgement for business owners across Toowoomba and surrounding areas, including Highfields, Gatton and Warwick. Our team manages reporting for GST, PAYG withholding and superannuation.
We hold a Cert IV in Bookkeeping, are fully licensed and registered as BAS agents, and have supported local businesses since 2002. Whether you work as a sole trader or run a team, we’re here to support you.
Our BAS services include reviewing financial records, calculating totals for each category and preparing lodgements in accordance with your monthly or quarterly schedule. All figures are checked against your bookkeeping data using software such as Xero.

HOW WE WORK
We start by reviewing your bookkeeping records. Our team calculates GST collected and paid, PAYG withholding, super guarantee amounts and any other figures required for your business’s activity statement. If adjustments are needed, we update your records before completing the lodgement.
All BAS reports are prepared using verified data and cross-checked against your reconciliation history. Once the report is ready, we submit it to the ATO and provide a copy of the lodged statement for your records. One contact handles your lodgements from start to finish.
We also update figures from previous periods if necessary and manage any queries around what needs to be included. Services are available on a monthly or quarterly basis, depending on your registration and reporting schedule.
BUSINESS ACTIVITY STATEMENT MUST-HAVES
A Business Activity Statement (BAS) includes financial figures related to a business’s tax obligations. This can involve reporting on Goods and Services Tax (GST) collected from sales and GST paid on purchases, which is used to determine the net amount payable or refundable. If the business has employees, the BAS may also include Pay As You Go (PAYG) withholding amounts from wages.
Other sections may apply depending on the business structure, such as PAYG instalments, fuel tax credits or fringe benefits tax (FBT) instalments. Information submitted in a BAS is drawn from up-to-date bookkeeping records and financial data. Each section of the form corresponds with specific tax obligations set by the ATO and must reflect accurate and current figures for the relevant period.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often does a BAS need to be lodged?
Most businesses lodge a BAS quarterly, but some may need to lodge monthly if their GST turnover is higher. The ATO sets the lodgement frequency during GST registration. Smaller businesses may be eligible for annual lodgement. Each BAS is due after the end of the reporting period, with deadlines depending on the assigned schedule.
What happens if you lodge a BAS late or make a mistake?
Late BAS lodgement may result in ATO penalties or interest charges. If a mistake occurs, it can often be corrected in a future BAS using an adjustment. In some cases, an amended BAS may be required. Accurate recordkeeping and timely lodgement is essential.
Can a bookkeeper lodge a BAS for a business?
Only a registered BAS agent can legally lodge a BAS or provide BAS-related advice. To become registered, a bookkeeper must meet qualifications, experience requirements and compliance standards set by the Tax Practitioners Board. Unregistered bookkeepers may help prepare data, but cannot submit statements or deal directly with the ATO on behalf of a client.
